Events 2010

Every year I set out to do at least one race or event for charity, this year I have been talked into more than one, but I am aiming to only raise money for one of the charities that organise these events and enter the others by paying a fee for entry.

Anyway the objectives I have set this year are to compete in the events listed below and to raise money for CLIC Sargent Cancer Care www.clicsargent.org.uk who organise the 70 Wild Miles event.

I will be tracking my progress in training for these events and how I do in them on this page, and hopefully some of you who drop by will be generous enough to leave a donation at my just giving page, by clicking on the left or below.

www.etapecaledonia.co.uk The Etape Caledonia is an 81 mile cycle challenge taking place on traffic-free roads in the stunning scenery of Highland Perthshire. The event is to be held on 16th May 2010 and is expecting close to 5000 competitors. As well as contending with the 81 miles (130kM) in distance there is also a total ascent of 1,949m to keep the legs working on this course.
www.70wildmiles.org 70 Wild Miles is a triathlon consisting of a 47 mile cycle, 10 mile canoe and a 13 mile run. It is not a race as such, the real purpose being to assist in the fight against Cancer. The course starts from the White Corries ski center in Glen Coe with competitors cycling to Taynuilt, from here it is a paddle up Loch Etive with the final section being a run back to Glen Coe and the finish line.
www.hartlepoolburnroad.co.uk The Hartlepool Marina 5 race is to be held on Sunday 28th March, 2010. Start is at 10.30 am. The Marina 5 is a fast and flat 5 mile course starting and finishing at Hartlepool's Maritime Experience.
Cleveland Survival A 26 mile challenge through the heart of the North Yorkshire Moors. The Survival is a friendly event based on an orienteering course of about 26 miles to be completed within the 12-hour time limit. There will be a series of checkpoints identified by a grid reference and description. Your aim is to visit each checkpoint in the order given on the route card. This event is organised by Cleveland Search and Rescue Team.
www.runteesvalley.co.uk Accurately measured at 13 miles 192.5 yards the Half Marathon is run over a flat scenic course. The route starts in the village of Kirkleatham and follows the A174 out to Marske by the Sea before returning via coast and the esplanade back to the finish at the village, adjacent to Kirkleatham Museum.
www.acklamrufc.co.uk Every year Acklam RUFC have a Coast to Coast Cycle Ride to raise money for charity drink some beer and eat some curry this year the route chosen is starting on the Cumbrian Coast heading cross country through Barnard Castle and finishing at Saltburn.
http://www.lochness360.com/ A grueling mountain bike ride 360 degrees around the most famous loch in the world, not sure if this event is going to be held this year but if it is, its on the list.
